Our Bodies Are Getting Colder

You’ve had your temperature checked before, right?

If your body temperature is too

high

or too low, it means you’re not

well.

But your body temperature should usually be about the same each time you check it.

That is because our bodies are

really

good at controlling their own

temperature.

If you’re hot you will probably sweat.

And if you’re cold you
might get goosebumps.

These are just some of the ways our bodies control our temperature.

But did you know bodies are actually slowly getting colder and colder? Yep,
it’s true.

Researchers found out that humans’ average body temperature became
half a degree cooler in the last 200 years or so.

That may not sound like a lot, but it means our bodies are changing.

But …
why? Well, the truth is … we’re not quite sure.

It’s probably because of a
lot of reasons.

If you compare the world now to

200

hundred years ago, people have

better

medicine,

more food,

and more information about what

is good for us and what is bad for

us.

We’re overall healthier.

We also have heating and air-

conditioning now, so our bodies

don’t

have to

work as hard to control our

temperature.

And that’s not the only thing that’s

changing … we’re getting taller,

heavier, and living longer too.

What all this means is that if you were born two-hundred years ago, you would
have probably looked a little bit different. And that’s pretty interesting.
