What is World Teachers’ Day?<\/strong><\/font><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On 5 October, teachers\u2019 organisations worldwide mobilise(\u52d5\u54e1)<\/font> to ensure that the needs of future generations are taken into consideration in this increasingly complex, multicultural and technological (\u6280\u8853\u7684)<\/font>world. <\/font><\/p>\n

UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization \u806f\u5408\u570b\u6559\u80b2\u79d1\u5b78\u66a8\u6587\u5316\u7d44\u7e54) inaugurated(\u958b\u59cb) 5 October as World Teachers\u2019 Day in 1994 to commemorate(\u6176\u795d\u7d00\u5ff5)<\/font> the joint signing of the <\/font>UNESCO\/ILO( <\/strong>International Labor Organization \u570b\u969b\u52de\u5de5\u7d44\u7e54)Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers<\/strong> (\"pdf\" 116 kb)<\/font><\/font><\/a> on 5 October 1966. World Teachers\u2019 Day also highlights the <\/font>Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel<\/strong> (\"pdf\" 6.6 mb)<\/font><\/font><\/a> adopted(\u88ab\u63a1\u7528)<\/font> in 1997.<\/font><\/p>\n

According to UNESCO, World Teachers’ Day represents a significant(\u91cd\u5927\u6709\u610f\u7fa9)<\/font> token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed(\u5c55\u793a)<\/font> for the vital(\u6975\u91cd\u8981\u7684)<\/font> contribution that teachers make to education and development. Education International strongly believes that this Teachers’ Day should be internationally recognized and celebrated around the world. EI also believes that, on this anniversary(\u9031\u5e74\u7d00\u5ff5) date, the principles of the 1966 and 1997 Recommendations should be considered for implementation(\u5c65\u884c\u5b8c\u6210) in all nations. <\/font><\/p>\n

Over 100 countries observe (\u6176\u795d)<\/font>World Teachers’ Day. The efforts of Education International and its 348 member organisations have contributed to this widely spread recognition.
